Auction gets upside down start in market without a ‘weak spot’

Lockdown restrictions have turned Melbourne’s spring auction market on its head, literally for one held yesterday.

KR Peters auctioneer Peter Nicolls started the call for a two-bedroom unit at 2/1 Martin Place, Bayswater, with the video camera streaming the auction upside down.

The issue was quickly corrected, though Mr Nicolls joked he felt the angle had been flattering.

And while the home passed in with just one person bidding, it turned out there had been many more watching in the hopes of swooping in later.
